Incident Description: At approximately 6:00 PM on April 15, 1988, Campus Security was notified of a theft that had occurred in the Student Union Building, Room 107 during the annual Springfest event. The victim, [Name Redacted], reported that their four-track tape recorder, a TASCAM Portastudio 414, had been stolen from the room where it had been temporarily stored between performances. The last time the victim saw the equipment was at approximately 3:00 PM, and they noticed it missing at around 5:00 PM.

The room was reportedly left unlocked due to the high volume of students accessing the area for equipment during the Springfest event. There were no signs of forced entry, suggesting the crime was opportunistic in nature. Several individuals had access to the room during the time frame given, but no eyewitnesses have come forward with information regarding the theft.

Investigative Actions:

  • A preliminary sweep was conducted in the area to locate the stolen item or any potential evidence; however, nothing of significance was found.
  • Campus Security has interviewed potential witnesses, and a list of event participants with access to Room 107 during the time of the incident has been compiled for further investigation.
  • Notices have been posted around the campus and an announcement made during the ongoing Springfest event to alert the community of the theft and request any information.

Follow-up: This investigation is ongoing. Campus Security will review any available surveillance footage in the vicinity of the Student Union Building and continue to interview potential witnesses.
